The new Parrot is open

The Parrot reopened last week after an extensive refurbishment by Brunning and Price. Duncan Moore and his wife Nikki are now at the helm and are enjoying welcoming the community of Forest Green and beyond.

‘’It has been wonderful to see people’s reactions as they come through the door. We have received lots of ‘’wows’’ and a huge wealth of positive feedback about the changes we have made. All are pleased that we have kept and enhanced the original features and the general lay out of the building, it’s nice to have the smaller rooms rather than a huge expanse of space. Everyone seems very pleased with the larger bar as there is more room to stock more delights, especially local ales; Shere Drop is flying out, as is the Harveys Mild.

We have also been visited by customers who have never been to Forest Green before, so a lovely mix of old and new, popping in for a drink afterwork or a more leisurely occasion with friends and family.

Daniel’s opening menu is proving to be very popular, obviously at the moment we have some festive dishes in amongst the more exotic and it’s these that have started off as the most popular, telling us that our customers are very much in the festive spirit. The ‘Game suet pudding with creamy mash and buttered greens’ is also proving to be a firm favourite, reflective of the chilly weather outside and the desire to snuggle with comfort food next to one of our roaring fires.

We hope to meet some more of our neighbours when we welcome the Ewhurst Parish Church singers at 6pm on Sunday 23rd December to sing carols around the tree, accompanied by a spot of mulled wine and some mince pies. We are also holding our first ‘pub walk’ at 10am on Saturday 29th December, raising money and awareness along the way for our local dogs charity, Holbrook animal rescue. The walk is a circular two miles long, aiming to be back at the pub in time for lunch, having had a good chat along the way, getting to know more people in our new home’’.
